  • OH! That’s easy! Creative storytelling with OH cards

The genre of associative cards known as the ‘OH cards’ includes decks that have been created specifically for storytelling as well as other interchangeable decks that work wonderfully too. The cards are flexible, easy-to-use tools to generate creative and interesting stories within the classroom and outside. Whether the focus is on improving fluency, working with plot or character, or just having fun, they are invaluable for anyone working with children and literacy.

  • Growing Stories

A Storytelling Workshop for Parents and Other Caregivers Studies have found that one of the best predictors of later educational success is the number of interesting stories a child had been told. In this workshop you will discover how you can foster your child’s intellectual, emotional and social development and lay the groundwork for literacy and language learning through telling stories to your children.

Topics covered in this workshop will include:

  • What are the benefits of storytelling for you and your children?
  • What types of stories and storytelling styles will appeal to children of different ages?
  • Types of story you can tell
  • How to unlock your personal stories
  • Some simple easy-to-tell-stories
  • Some fun storytelling activities to explore

The session will be highly interactive; it will include some demos by the trainer, and lots of participation by the attendees. Handouts will be given to all participants.

The workshop is suitable for parents, grandparents, other family members, and those wishing to prepare for parenthood.

  • Did I Hear You Write?

Many children enjoy listening to stories, telling stories, reading stories, but too few enjoy writing them. Discover how you can harness that enthusiasm for stories and channel it into creative writing. This workshop will show how speaking, listening and reading activities can be woven into the writing process, to engage pupils in a holistic language learning environment.

The workshop will be highly interactive, it will include some formal presentations and demonstration of the techniques by the trainer and lots of participation by the attendees.

In the workshop you will:

  • learn how storytelling can be used to enhance pupils creative writing.
  • Experience activities that that can be used in classrooms to bridge the oral and written forms of the language and improve both.
  • discover which types of stories will lend themselves to the creative writing process.

This workshop is suitable for primary school language teachers, or anyone working with improving the language skills of learners at different levels. Comprehensive handouts will be given to all participants.

  • Beyond Storytelling 101

Have you been telling stories for some time already and been wondering how you can improve your storytelling skills? If yes, then this workshop is for you! Beyond Storytelling 101 aims to enhance participants’ ability to adapt stories for telling and to hone their delivery skills over 12 hours of coaching. Beyond Storytelling 101 (2010) will be the third time that this intermediate course is being carried out after the two successful courses held during 2008 and 2009.
