StoryPlay is a new regular SAS event launched in 2012.
In essence, StoryPlay is 4 evenings a year of experimental story workshops, led by Professional Members of the Association and open to all members to attend free of charge. The StoryPlay sessions will be an opportunity for professional members to try our workshop ideas and for other members to have access to a facilitated space where they can play, learn and experiment within the world of story .
The StoryPlay Sessions for 2012 are:
THE MULTI-PURPOSE PROP
7pm to 9.30pm, Tuesday 28 February 2012
Classroom 2 (upstairs), The Substation, No: 45 Armenian Street
Facilitated by Verena Tay
Just as how we use words to stimulate the imagination of our audiences, let us storytellers use props in a discerning and resourceful manner to support our storytelling. In this exploration, let SAS Professional Member Verena Tay guide you in expanding the possibilities of using a chosen prop and then integrating these new options within your telling of a story, thereby further wowing your audience with your creativity.
Pre-preparation for Participants
- Please come dressed in loose, comfortable clothing so that you will not feel constricted while doing the various physical activities.
- Please bring at least one generic non-breakable prop (e.g. a piece of cloth, a stick, a ball) that you would like to experiment with.
- Please bring at least 2 action-based stories that you would like to improve the telling of by using a prop in a variety of ways.
To confirm your attendance, please email Verena via verenatay@gmail.com by Mon 27 Feb 2012.
USING PERCUSSION
7pm to 9.30pm, Tuesday 15 May 2012
Classroom 2 (upstairs), The Substation, No: 45 Armenian Street
Facilitated by Verena Tay
Sometimes the rhythm and sound of speech is not enough to sustain the telling of a story. Perhaps the use of a percussion instrument may provide the added aural texture that will bring your storytelling to another level. Then, you are faced with the following dilemmas: what instrument to use, how do you play the instrument, when is the best time to use the instrument in relation to telling a story? So in ‘Using Percussion’, let us take the time to explore and experiment with these options and then work towards a draft of a storytelling performance.
Pre-preparation for Participants
- Please come dressed in loose, comfortable clothing so that you will not feel constricted while doing the various physical activities.
- Please bring at least one percussive instrument that you would like to experiment with.
- Please bring at least 2 stories that you would like to improve the telling of by incorporating percussion.
To confirm your attendance, please email Verena via verenatay@gmail.com by Mon 14 May 2012.
