The 5th 398.2 Storytelling Festival is here!  The Storytelling Association (Singapore) has collaborated with Story Connection and the National Library Board to carry out the 398.2 Storytelling Festival 2019 held at the National Library on December 1st. The number 398.2 is the Dewey Decimal System section of folktales, fairy-tales, and fables section of the library.

All sessions do not require registration, with the exception of the mini-facilitated Story Dice workshops at My Tree House (on-site registration), and ‘Creating and Telling Family Stories’ workshop for adults (pre-registration required).

Besides a dedicated track for adults at the festival, there are stories with songs and music for pre-schoolers, family audiences, stories for adults, child and adult workshops, quiz, craft and more. There is something for everyone!

Programme Zone – Basement 1: Interactive storytelling for family audiences
Stories with music and song, bilingual stories in Tamil, Malay, Mandarin, and French, stories on art, on royalty and around the world will thrill the family audiences. This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, and children to forge family bonds and learn together.

Visitors’ Briefing Room – Level 1: Themed stories for 2-5-year-olds
Pre-schoolers can enjoy tales with songs and repetition from Aesop fables to themes about the woods, water, puppets, monsters, little people and giants and magic. The highly interactive stories will give the little ones a total-body experience with the magic of storytelling!

My Tree House – Basement 1: Environmentally-themed craft, quizzes, and stories for children
How much do you know about the environment? Are you a PANDA JUNIOR reader? Awareness is the first step towards saving the environment. Battle it out at the environmental-themed WWF quiz open to all children aged 4-16 years and stand to win exciting eco kits and animal puppets.

Quiz Finals Time    :  02:00pm – 02:30pm

There are also facilitated mini-workshops (timings below) using the Story Dice, die with symbols to generate creative storytelling. On-site registration is required.

Multipurpose Room – Basement 1: Storytelling, and ‘Creating and Telling Family Stories’ Workshop for Adults

Adults will be enthralled by Japanese folktales, Love and War Stories, Scary Stories, as well as stories from visiting storyteller from USA, Fran Stallings. Due to limited spaces for ‘Creating and Telling Family Stories’ workshop, please register here.

Many families have stories that they have not shared with their children or do not know how to go about sharing them. This workshop will give you some ideas on how to gather family stories and share them with your children. This is a workshop for adults. Come with several photographs of your childhood or any significant events in your life (bring actual photographs or printed copies). Open your hearts and mind to explore your family stories.
